Jenny & Scotty 6.9.12

Jenny and Scotty were married at my oh so favorite Camp Ohana, on a perfectly sunny afternoon surrounded by ferns, moss, rocks and grassy bits. Jenny told me in our first meeting that she wanted their wedding to reflect their love of camp, canoeing, and a magical place surrounded by moss, grasses and ferns (yikes, the name escapes me, maybe its somewhere in Canada?) they once traveled to. One of the best compliments a florist can get is that a wedding is perfectly "them"...and I've heard this numerous times about Jenny and Scotty's wedding. It was really, perfectly them.



Jenny let me make her a flower pile! I was SO excited.  Ohana's dining hall is so perfectly perfect in every way. I'm a sucker for anything that feels like summer camp having gone for 11 years. Something about it just feels like home.  I proper oar send off! (and a very excited pup!)

Ann & Ryan 5.19.12

On a perfect day in May, Ann and Ryan were married in a chapel built for 15. A tiny button of a chapel tucked into the woods, over a tiny bridge, up a crooked path and surrounded by dairy cows. All in all, a perfect ceremony for a tiny intimate celebration, with only the most important people.



A photo I couldn't resist, of my favorite flower shop kid. His freckles and missing tooth really complement the bouquet.  Nothing warms a florists heart more then a giggling flower girl with her nose in a bouquet.

Corporate goodness

Hey! Its not always weddings around these parts...we also make arrangements for offices and other non-weddingy events of the more corporate variety. We made these lovelies for an office open house held at Dartmouth College.

Who ever said offices don't like to feel pretty every once in awhile? 

Amanda & Jeff 4.21.12

It was nice to be back....Amanda and Jeff held their small intimate wedding at Simon Pearce Restaurant in Quechee, VT. One of my favorite venues due to it's stylish decor, amazing food and the view outside the windows, was nearly gutted last year due to hurricane Irene. (check out the damage in this video...you'll really get a feeling for what went on just 3 miles from our shop) It was nice to stand in its private room and look outside at the waterfall that severely changed the surrounding landscape that I grew up with and know that everything was rebuildable, and that my favorite places would continue to be my favorite places.

Anyway...enough of that. Amanda and Jeff got married in a large show room at the restaurant surrounded by gorgeous pieces of glass and pottery and under a rustic arbor of birch covered in flowers. The predicted rain held off just long enough, 50 of their closest friends and family gathered, and the flower arrangements were filled with tulips (Amanda's favorite) All in all...it was a pretty perfect day.

It must be love...

Hellebore. No other flower can bring out as many "ohhhhs" and "ahhhhs" with florists. Maybe a garden rose or an orchid, sometimes dahlias and ranunculus, but without a doubt....the Hellebore will always be a florist favorite. Maybe its the short season, and the fact that they seem so limited, one of a kind, and elusive. Blooming at the end of winter or in very early spring when no other flower has cracked through the earth, this little friend stands tall. Well, actually short...and somewhat hidden in the shade.

I love them for their amazing range of muted tones. Quiet shades that seem to work perfectly with any color you choose to pair them with. Dark plums with slight accents of gray, muddled tones of greens and cream with tiny adorable spots, and puce, the most horribly named....yet most beautiful color.

I also love them, because they are poisonous...and were once used to treat insanity. Funny how those seem to go hand in hand. I salute you little Hellebore. Thank you for making my March and April a little more interesting.

And so it begins...

....wedding season. The time of year a florist waits for with a mixture of emotions. The start of never ending work, emails and questions. The time when you can no longer make plans on a weekend, or eat regularly scheduled meals. But it is also the time of an explosion of creativity. Months filled with beautiful flowers and thoughtfully put together lovliness. Seeing your vision come to fruition, is something that one can only describe as exhaustingly gratifying. Our wedding season this year is long, running from April into January 2013. We have some beauties lined up, lots of orange and purple. Beautiful orchids we don't get to use too often, a traditional Hindu ceremony, lots of fruit and veggies, graffiti, and lots of gorgeous garden roses. All in all its shaping up to be a gorgeous spring/summer/fall/winter. With all of that out of the way, we kicked off the season with a tiny wedding complete with 12 guests in a room with a roaring fire at one of my favorite places (Home Hill Inn) surrounded by best the early spring has to offer.
