i can feel it...

...spring is right the corner. i can feel it in my bones, actually more like on my toes because i'm officially back in flip-flops. ok fine, maybe its a little early for bare feet, but my left pinky toe is happy to see the sun, it told me so.
so for those not from this fantastic part of the country i'll explain what "spring" means. it means mud, its actually a well known fact that new england has 5 seasons. winter, mud, spring, summer and fall. we get so much snow that the melting process just wreaks havoc on everything... (the road leading up to my friend emilie's house...fun huh?)

my delivery van has notoriously been stuck in a number of driveways, desperately spinning its tires in the mud. so for those who are surrounded by nice paved roads...i'm officially telling you now that i'm jealous.

but with spring, brings happy flowers, the start to local product (pussy willow galore!) and the ability to start gathering moss for the ever so popular terrariums...

so with all that happy stuff said about spring, its now pouring rain, and grey outside. so much for warm toes.....lame.

just a little gifty for a lady named teri.

hey teri in jacksonville florida...these are for you :)

glamour shots...

i hear on a daily basis how awesome my job is...its true, it pretty much rules at life, but there is one aspect to the job which i am not so in love with.

my hands.

granted the photo above just shows a tiny bit of what i'm about to talk about...florist hands are notoriously nasty. i have a callus on my thumb from holding a knife, dirt ground into the cracks on my fingers, that no matter how hard i scrub just wont go away. i obviously cant wear nail polish, because it peels within a matter of hours, and god forbid i grow my nails...nobody wants to look like they have a years worth of dirt under their nails! the nail on my right index finger is a lovely shade of green, and the skin around my nails peels as if i'm a snake shedding its skin. oh, and don't get me started on the small cuts and scars i have up and down my arms. thorns are mean. so as a really good example of the horror to which i speak, i took a picture of my hands after valentines day.

gross huh?
but the one thing i think of when i look at my hands is that they make people happy. cheesy? ohhh hell yeah! but yeah...its true.

The dreaded V-day...

so...its over. as i wrote order after order and quickly abbreviated many card messages i soon found myself giggling at what i was writing...."happy v.d." you know a holiday should be eliminated when the abbreviation congratulates you on your new sexually transmitted disease. for you non-florist types valentines day is a day where people give you happy chocolates and things shaped like cutesie hearts, even if you're single, i've heard its a very happy day, filled with all sorts of that love stuff...but for us its a day when we wake up and wish that we could hide in the bedroom closet until its over.

so, because i am insane...i also decided to go ahead and do a wedding along with all the normal craziness. brenda and jeff were funny, quirky, and wanted something colorful and different so i signed myself up for it knowing that i was doing something not many florists would even think twice about doing.

maybe its because i am a machine. i even have metal parts...*

brenda's bouquet was a mix of sweetpea, lots and lots of sweet pea, anemone, posy callas, tulips, ranunculus, lisianthus, phlox and cymbidium orchids. i love a huge mix of things and the texture it produces when all is said and done. i remember at one point walking around holding her bouquet with my face right in it because mannnnn did it smell good.

everything else was bright, very very very bright.

so needless to say, i'm tired...and i'm happy that its over. and now i have a quiet day of catching up on my wedding quotes. (if you have yet to receive one from me...i not officially promise you its one its way!)

*totally a lie, i wrote it for dramatic effect

Yes, i'm alive...

helllllllo...oh, its been a long time since i've been on here. maybe its the cold, and the fact that i want to do nothing more then hunker down and watch movie after movie. who knows. this past weekend i watched juno three times...but i find the music very enjoyable, and in general it makes for a good day. i've also been making TONS of origami flowers for a future store display...i'm slightly obsessed....(again, my OCD has kicked in)

anyway, i got an email today telling me that a bride of mine from 2007 was in the new issue of New England Bride magazine...pretty snazzy. so check it out, not a ton of flower shots, but still a cool couple none the less. i've asked alison if she had any professional shots to share and she sent these to me...

alison was quick to point out, that yes...they spelt her name wrong, and got their wedding date off by a year, but hey...who needs the correct details right?  (click the links kids!)

La Bella

check on the january issue of La Bella Bride a "trendsetting wedding publication offering a unique persepctive for today's "thinking woman"" (totally not my words, but fits the publication well...think martha stewart with a lot less soft focus photographs, and realistic budgets! woo-hooooo!) well anyway, alison and paul...a couple from this past spring have a profile in it. we have 2 more magazines coming out this month with profiles of weddings we did last year! yowzers...kinda cool. i feel kinda important or something...

click the link above to read the article! its cute!
